How to Use This Month’s Sales Kit

Use this kit to create a list of questions you can ask your business-owning clients during your next call or meeting. You can start with the preliminary list on page 22, as well as the conversation starters on page 23. Or flip to the pre-written questionnaire on page 62 for a more in-depth approach. Once you know what they know - and what they don't - you can ask them about business succession, their key employees, retirement planning, estate planning, and more.

Here are just a few stats in the kit that caught our eye:

  • 5.4 million new business applications were filed in 2021, breaking the record set in 2020. All those new business owners probably don't know what they should be doing to prepare for retirement, wealth transfer, and employee & executive benefits that go beyond the basics. Even if they're not ready to take action yet, you could make an impact by being the first person to bring up these topics with them.
  • Only 44% of business owners surveyed have a plan for income protection. Whether that comes from life insurance, disability insurance, or both, they need help figuring out how to safeguard the money they're making.
  • As of 2022, almost 2/3 of small business are currently profitable. That's a bright spot from a 2022 Guidant survey of small business trends, especially considering the doom and gloom new business owners often see about failure rates. That means every year, you have more potential clients to find and help as these new businesses start, succeed, and grow.
