Carrier Updates

Last Updated: August 2

  • In-Force Rate Action Announcement: Indiana. In August 2012, we announced our intention to seek premium rate increases on certain blocks of comprehensive long term care insurance policies, including Pre-PCS, PCS I, PCS II, and Choice 1. During the course of 2012-2014, we implemented rate increases on these blocks of business. In some states, we did not receive the full requested increase. We began submitting requests in these states during the second half of 2014. We have received approvals in a number of these states and are now beginning to implement the second round of increases in Indiana. This implementation does not include Indiana Partnership policyholders.
  • Interest Crediting Rate Changes on Life Insurance Products. Due to the continued low interest rate environment, Genworth has determined an adjustment to the new money interest crediting rates for some of our interest-sensitive products is needed, effective July 18, 2016. The new rates are at least equal to the guaranteed minimum crediting rates. Although these interest crediting rate changes to new money will affect policy value growth, they will not affect secondary guarantee planned premiums or benefits on existing policies. For details on specific products affected, see rates bolded in red on the two page chart below.
  • Genworth Launches Element a New Long Term Care Insurance Solution.  At Genworth, we are working to help make long term care insurance more accessible through underwriting enhancements and more affordable solutions. On June 27, we launched ElementSM, a long term care insurance solution based on our flagship Privileged Choice® Flex 3 product. Element features four preset packages. There are just two decisions to make: determine which level of protection your clients want and for couples, the optional Shared Coverage benefit can be selected.

  • Coming Soon - Lincoln VUL - 2014 - New Versions of Riders. Optimal No-Lapse Enhancement (ONE) Rider Effective August 8, 2016, there will be a new version of the ONE Rider for use on Lincoln VULONE (2014) which will be consistent with the Allocation Requirements language in Lincoln SVULONE (2016). To address potential equity volatility exposure, the new ONE Rider language states that Lincoln reserves the right to establish future investment restrictions in the form of maximum or minimum percentages of certain subaccounts as described in the prospectus. It is important to note that Lincoln is not currently imposing these restrictions on either Lincoln VULONE (2014) or Lincoln SVULONE (2016) and there are no benefit, pricing or compensation changes related to the new version of the ONE Rider.
  • Term Conversion Guidelines - Update as of September 12, 2016. Lincoln will be updating the Term Conversion Guidelines for new business effective September 12, 2016. These Term Conversion changes support our ability to continue offering a comprehensive, competitive, and relevant portfolio of term products for your clients. Our Term conversion guideline practices are still among the most competitive in the industry, providing you and your clients the flexibility needed to customize their long-term plans.
  • Internal Replacement Guidelines Addendums. A clarification is being added to the Internal Replacement Guidelines regarding commission calculations on contractual exchange provisions. If a new policy is issued without underwriting as part of a contractually guaranteed exchange provision, no first year compensation will be paid on the new policy.

  • Public Hearing for Florida LTC Rate Increases. MetLife has requested long-term care insurance rate increases in the State of Florida. As part of the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation's review, a public hearing is being held on August 12, 2016, to allow policyholders an opportunity to express their opinions, provide a statement, or ask questions regarding the proposed rate increases. Policyholders that may be impacted by the rate increase, if approved by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, will receive a letter with information on the hearing. The letters will be mailed on July 22, 2016. Included with this release is a copy of the letter that will be mailed to the policyholders.
  • Get Clients 2x the Protection: Same Class, Limited Underwriting. From August 1st through December 31st, 2016, MetLife is offering a quicker way for a qualified client to get more life insurance with limited underwriting. The MetLife Class Match program can issue a new policy matching that client's inforce policy's underwriting class and face amount, up to $1.5 million.
  • LTC Phase 6 In-Force Rate Action on July 6, 2016. MetLife LTC to begin Phase 6 implementation of in-force rate action on July 6. Phase 6 Impacts VIP2 individual policies in New Jersey. In October 2012, we announced that we would be filing, where required, for a rate increase on our two newer individual policy series, VIP2 and LifeStage Advantage (LSA), as well as an additional rate increase on our two older individual policy series, LTC97 and VIP1, which were subject to an earlier rate increase that we announced in 2008. (Policyholders that purchased VIP2 and LSA policies with the new rate basis were not impacted). This decision was largely driven by cumulative changes in actuarial assumptions since the initial pricing of our products. We have continued to evaluate the assumptions used to price our products. Based on an in-depth analysis of our individual business, we are continuing the work we started in 2008 and 2012 as well as taking new rate action on certain VIP2 and LSA policy forms issued beginning in 2009. As we communicated in October 2015, for most product series, we have filed and will be filing for a rate increase that varies by state, depending on the level of increases that were previously approved in that state. However for the VIP2 and LSA policies under the new rate basis, no prior rate increase has been filed in any state and we have filed and will be filing for the same rate increase in every state, subject to regulatory restrictions.
  • Updates on Individual Disability Insurance. As we continue toward the previously announced suspension of new Individual Disability Insurance (IDI) sales, we want to provide an update and key dates as they have been developed. As previously communicated, sales of new IDI policies will be suspended as of September 1, 2016. The last date to place issued policies is October 31, 2016.
